I loved the Festival. Great fun. The whole day finale is the only way to do it.
Only thing I would like to have back in is candy cane equivalent. Only change is make rice cakes work anywhere, not just in town.

Perhaps in town, you could have some dancers/drummers/dragon parades.

Thanks for the fun.

  • Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

I prefer the new every two hour, all final day thing after a few days to gather your orbs/items. I was on vacation and it really helped me find a (weird) time to experience the event.
  • Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?

Yeah, they were pretty cool. I thought the chance games were an interesting addition. The PvP game didn't have as much depth as the snowball fights. But it was fun to try a few rounds.
  • Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

Yes, six or seven times over for the Hanso missions. Tried the Ruijo mission and after an hour decided it wasn't worth 50 orbs. But I got a feel for what it would take to beat it.
  • Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?

Yes, I got more than my share. IMHO, a portion of the presents should go straight to inventory and *some* should be up for grabs.
  • What did you like best? Least?

Overall, I though the biggest improvement was having a guy available for a week to get your mask if you missed the festival.

Thanks for all your input![/QUOTE]

* The final day was a nice idea IMO since it gave mor epeople a chance to get to see the festival on that day :P

*I liked the dragon arena and those mini missions.

*I actually completed 4 of those mini misisons, but couldn,t get more due to lack of members online and time ....

*jeah, i scored nice loot from the prizes even was called a "greedy fag" and had fun because i just acted faster ^^ (and used some cakes)

*best: Those mini missions i wish they would remain.
Worst: The Ring games, to get those titles you had to spend a lott off time during the festival on them wich is a real pity.

Because of the time zone range, any one-time only event is going to either force many people to try to play at, for them, quite odd hours. Much as we'd all love to play Guild Wars anytime, anywhere, it doesn't work like that - but since we've (probably) all got at least the couple minutes necessary (about 30, in this case) to join in the festivities at any given two-hour interval, multiple finales make it way easier for most people to participate.

Quote:
[*]Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
I'll be honest here: I didn't actually try the dodgeball. But if it was anything like the snowball arena, it was a ebullient extravaganza of, um, ernest entertainment. As for the other stuff? Well, I didn't really care for it. The gambling titles are, frankly, stupid. All it took is a big stash and a lot of afk time to "earn". And they others were a little sporadically populated - inevitable, but a little odd. I saw one guy running through that one where you tag the dragon hatchlings, what was it called? Anyway, he was the only one there, and played four or five rounds unopposed. A little odd.

Quote:
[*]Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
Well, I kinda wanted to, but I didn't have much time to spare and the rewards really didn't seem to be worth it. So technically, no. But not for lack of lack of trying.

Quote:
[*]Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
Yes, and the presents were fun, but people were being such jerks about the spawns. I went over to the Xunlais to put away some spare Jade Wind Orbs I'd picked up from essence-running, and when I stooped to grab an attractive little present that had appeared at my feet several ingrates in the vicinity began flaming me; apparently it was "their" spot and "their" loot. How festive!

As always, the town decorations were my favorite. The team has really done a great job on that - Halloween, Wintersday, and now the Dragon Festival. I love it! All those lanterns, and twilight glow, the ambience of Rujiyo and the Dragon Arena Guard and all the game-running NPCs shouting about.

I thought the celestial charge minigame at the end of Emperor Kisu's speech was a great addition and the presents were a fun reward for winning the game. However, I have one suggestion regarding the present drops.

I think that in future minigames like this, there should be some sort of participation required in order to pick up the presents. For example, the number of presents dropped in Shing Jea Monestary = the Canthan team's score and the number of presents a character can pick up = the number of charges that they turned in. So if my character turns in 8 charges, I can pick up 8 presents. The presents need not be customized, but just a limit set on the number that can be picked up by a particular character based on how much they participated in the minigame.

The reason I'm making this suggestion is because every district I was in had a number of people that came just for the presents. They moved their character into a certain spot, started dancing, and then waited around for 15 minutes while everyone else turned in celestial charges to help the district win. So these people got to reap the rewards that were a result of work done by others. Not exactly fair to those that actually helped the district win.

I like it the way it is, every 2 hours and then the mini event.

Game’s where cool.

No, got bored after wiping out the first mob didn’t feel like doing the others.

Present where cool.

Captain missions: This is the one thing I disliked the most for a few reasons. Its a few quests you can’t take henchmen along, and one of those “you must run these builds in order to complete”, it’s tombs with a different landscape, the unbalanced uber skills of enemy mobs, not being able to have a bigger part number if you wanted to (for the player who it was hard for them to do), and lastly the reward.

Presents, the only thing I didn’t like is the people who waited for one to pop up near you to steal it. Make them assigned drops next time to prevent that, and people who aren’t as quick at least they get something.

Jade Wind Orbs, these thing’s I wish you all would have done something more with things other then just have them for masks there was no other use for them. First 15g for a ticket no complaints 25 tickets for a present that’s way to much why not have where you could have also traded in orb’s to get these two items. Also I was looking forward to the venders for the bean cakes and rice wine there was none yet another way orb’s could have been used.

I liked the final day extended ending. I think the explaination of the ending could have been clearer, but if people took a few minutes to read the event description, it seemed pretty clear that it was a finale "day-long" event.

I played the games briefly, but as you guys know, the 3x3 4x4 circle deal was pretty much an afker's dream, an expensive dream though. I would say that i did assume that there would be "dragons" at the festival, interesting that there wasn't, hmmm.

Haha, the challange was fun, but the rewards were very, very bad. I mean the dream riders should of at least dropped ectos...Even the weapon drops were less then par.

Although we all did have a drunk, naked party/scrimmage at TSB's guild hall after we amassed enough wine, I'd say the best was the red bean cakes, so long have i wanted a way to run faster in the big towns. The occasional 1k was a really nice touch too Nothing has topped the Candy Canes though, hehe.

Winning and lossing the Grasp feast was both equally fun/funny, dragon arena (although still not as fun as the snowball fight) were all equally entertaining, IMO. I was addicted to the tag game too for a few hours

Thanks Gaile and A-net for a pretty damn good time. Let's just try to mix in the theme of the events a little better next time, i think.

This ALONE would have saved the mini-mission concept (which was a lot of fun, but had a crappy reward).

Games were great; LOVED whack a worm, this gives rise to an idea for a carnival town. Like a boardwalk with games and attractions, a gambling house would be another idea.

The big issue for me was finding people who understood the deadliness of Grasps. Also 4 man teams required some 1337 player skills to beat those missions. I felt sorry for the assassins, Ritualist, and a few other classes; who were capable classes vs. these creatures; but were unable to join a group. I think the same difficulty with larger party sizes would have been better for more involvement. I loved the opening missions vs. the level 18 Grasps. Even those you could easily solo and enjoy the story. Also the lower level creatures allowed new players with lesser-leveled players to enjoy the story of the missions.

Quote:

No I drank my wine and eat my cakes. I think people were hoping for some candy cane style gifts. The type of gifts that remove DP would have been good for the Grasp missions.

I liked the shock of finding a level 18 Grasp in the Yeti cave. I then realized the story of GW is far more reaching then what most people realize. If the story unfolds how I think it will I believe the GW story will be among the best written for any game. Overall there was nothing I disliked. Only things I liked.

GG A-NET keep up the good work

First off, I just have to say that I really enjoyed the festival. From Dodgeball and mini-games to the orb quests/farming... good all around.

*Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

Finale was good as is (time wise). I didn't have to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to be able to participate in the best parts of the festival. Especially when I have to be to work the next day.

*Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?

Games were good. Enjoyed dodgeball, and the whack-a-worm. Like others have stated, the games of chance were just an afk fest. Would have liked to have seen more variety in the games. Maybe a psuedo-roulette type of game where you had to pick a color to win (red or black), or maybe a cakewalk type of thing (everyone scrambles for a place and 1 random place is chosen... rinse & repeat), maybe games that require you being drunk to play (like a shooting gallery type with a 5 drink minimum... go in and try to wand/sword low level things to death (no skills)... prizes based on number of kills... game ends when you are no longer drunk or you die). Really enjoyed the celestial detonator game when the emperor came... that was cool...

*Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

I didn't even try them. Found that the reward online was only a handful of orbs, and figured it really wasn't worth it (when I can get 240 from the orb quests). Probably should have at least tried them though...

*Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?

Eh... scored enough... not much cash and traded all my bean cakes for wine (Hooray Beer!!!!)

*What did you like best? Least?

I enjoyed the newness of it all. It was a change from the normal and found it to be a good, overall diversion from the "toils" of the regular game. I found myself clock-watching for every two hours to be able to play tag with the grasps for freebies. I do like the idea though, stated previously, that the freebies should just "show up" in your inventory... would let me get back to the game quicker.

The thing I found uninspiring is that the orbs could only be used for the dragon mask. Although I do admit that the masks are cool, I am still sitting on over 1000 orbs and fear they will either end up as trash can fodder or the source of many hours standing in the monistary spamming "Orbs for sale" for the next week. I would have liked to see them be able to be traded (similar to monistary credits) for things like event keys for special chests, possibly holding event greens that you could have access to after completing special quests/missions (like the Captain's missions... after the mission, you get teleported to a room with chests and have at it) or trade them for tickets, wine or bean cakes.

Again, a good time all around, but you asked for suggestions

[*]Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?
Final day, I guess its more fair to players all around the world

[*]Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
Other then the AFK for Title idea, ya I like every part of it, even the so call gayish captain missions. Sure the reword suck, but more hard battle is always fun in my book

[*]Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
Yap, I actualy think its not hard, I know those fokes from tombs, they dont suprice me after 1 or 2 fail run. However, I will suggest you guys put this missions in a different place, new players who just join the game have no idea that is a event special, and some of them start complaining why is there a hardcore mission in a starter twon

[*]Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
Lol my last answer for this question was just wrong=P
I believe I score 34 preset in 1 present drops. I only did 1, cause I dont realy like to do that over and over again. My guildi did a lot more then me, and he is so happy to get those 1k present box, think he get 7 total.

[*]What did you like best? Least?
Best I vote Captain Mission~~~been able to tell my friends "My evilness has no bond" that is just fun
Least, I will say the Ring event, 1 it ate 20k from my already poor poket, 2 its just a boring afk game, gambling can be so much fun.

~ Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending? I thought the final day ending was nice, since I didn't have to set time aside to be online at a "one shot only" finale. Plus it was nice to see lots of people on throughout the whole day and not just one time.

~ Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
I thought the minigames were cool. I tried some ticket games at first and the ring games were neat, but expensive to play aand they seemed to be geared more for people who were willing to stand there for titles more than anything. The Whack-a-Worm game was fun as well, but took too long to get started in my opinion. I really liked the dodgeball type game, very challenging and a nice change from the ordinary. For new games, I think something like dodgeball game only with a lot more people would be very cool.

~ Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
To be honest I tried it with several random groups over the course of about an hour, then decided to look up what the reward was here on the forums. After seeing it was 50 orbs, I went back to playing dodgeball. It was nice to see something new and challenging, but since the most you could get from orbs was the mask, and I had already gotten 250 from the quests/games, doing a hard mission for them didn't seem worth it. I am sure there are people who enjoy the challenge, I would rather have fun playing minigames or at least be rewarded with something even if it was another small event item.

~ Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
I got 100 boxes total (I went to 3 finales over the course of the day) which I suppose is pretty good. I saw a lot of people (myself included) getting a bit territroial when it came time for the presents to drop. I think what would have worked better would have been having everyone gather presents and have them go into a pool which would be distributed amongst everyone (obviously there would need to be more presents than there were this time). I think rather than having 20 people get 50 boxes and the rest getting a few, 50 people getting 20 would be nicer and fairer.

~ What did you like best? Least?
The minigames were fun and very entertaining and were defintely the best in my opinion. A close secodn would be, the customized masks were a good idea, since there won't be any high priced after-festival sales of masks and other than left over orbs or presents I don't see people getting rich off items which I think is a good thing (people should look to these events for fun, not for money). I would have liked to see more festival items, like the masks that could be worn, but I know it is a lot of work to put that sort of stuff together. I disliked the mission the most, I think the mission could have either been a bit eaiser or have a better reward to help motivate the more causal players to join in.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the festival. Thanks ANet for all your hard work!

Yes, that sounds very fair. I like that idea a lot! The only drawback would be if your inventory is full, but you wouldn't be able to pick up the presents anyway if they dropped on the ground.

Big woop.

How is that different from Dragon Masks, Tengu Helms, Pumpkin Crowns, Yule Caps, Reindeer Horns, Candy Cane Axes, Bows, Shields, Wands, et al, Spiked Eggnog, Eggnog, Snowmen, Witches's Brew, Absinthe, Ghosts, Bean Cakes, Rice Wine, Festival Presents and on and on and on.....

I also said the Holiday Greens would HAVE to be alternate versions of already existing Greens (ie: Victo's Battle Axe with a new name and a new skin) so that you COULD get an identical item if necessary.

1) yes i enjoyed the games
2) no i didnt complete the missions. my first try with a PUG killed 7 of 8 before dying. when i found out about the rewards, i couldnt be bothered to waste anymore time for orbs that i could be spending gambling
3) yes i got a good amount of loot- farmed a few orbs the first day, opened more than a few presents too.
4) best- gambling least- captains missions giving poop rewards

my suggestions
1) risk vs reward on future missions. these were seriously hard missions for the average player and the reward should reflect that.
2) YES on the all-day finale. it would have been a shame to miss the last few hours because of a prior commitment after waiting throughout the festival for it. i highly suggest this for future events as well. if there is a special treat at for the "last hour," thats fine- but make sure its known well in advance.
3) collectors. this is the only aspect of the event i was truly disappointed in. the presents yield random rewards and thats ok. BUT i feel there should be collectors who take items (orbs, tickets, collectible drops, etc) and let you choose the event item that you want (ie. let me pick wine over and over for the drunkard title ) keep the system you used for this event but just add collectors like the wintersday event had and itll be PERFECT.

Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

final day stuff, can be done with ease and reduce the time zone prob

Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?

average, hopefully didnt had to deal with the ranger problem
mainly dissapointed by their quantity .. only rings and whack a worm/arena

Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

didnt even try, finger of chaos is soooo boring
the poor rewards kicked out what was remaining of any motivation
more orbs, festival stuff or gold d have been better.
hopefully, those were optional (rare stuff for missions since faction release )
anyway, the event quests/missions should always be quite soloable.

Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?

quite few, movement to get em was sooo buggy, i think everyone should have a small number of em assigned to em or directly in inventory + the dropping ones for the fun.

What did you like best? Least?

best: the new skin of Kaineng center (too bad nothing happened there )
and running after lil orbs on the island the day before the festival
least:

-no other use for orbs (would have been fun to trade em for ales)
-ales are basic ones, unlike eggnogs
-no collectors like during Wintersday
-way too much bugs (not mentionning the unacceptable bans today )
-the insane rank 5 in the titles
-the fact that maybe we ll never have em maxed out

# Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

I really liked the Final Day ending, it allows more people to enjoy the event, ad not force them to play at crazy hours to experience the end.

# Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
I loved the games, and the titles that went with them. For more maybe some regualr carnival games or some casino type place to work on our titles year round.

# Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
Yes, I was able to complete them all but only with my mesmer and ele. The rewards were not worth it. The normal quests I could beat with all 5 of my PvE Characters.

# Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
I got ~10 on each of my characters except my rit and sin, who went to a losing district to enjoy those festivities. I didn't get 1k form any of my prizes, 150ish orbs, 15 cakes, and 9 wines,

# What did you like best? Least?

I loved the games, masks, new titles, decorations, and the festival arenas. Really fun, I hope they all come back.

I didn't like how the rewards for Rujiyo's missions where alright for how hard those missions were.

i would like to start by saying that there are not enough uses for orbs... only for hat... its cool but i have over a grand of extra orbs.. (note this is after my 6 chars all got their hats) i also missed the ability to use low lvl collectors items to get tickets or presents... example: winters day. perhaps 5 orbs for one ticket.

the price of presents seems expensive i bet not too many people exchanged tickets for presents... its 375 gold for one present... how about 300g?

--rnd gold from the pressents is cool... --rice wine cool but worth more $ than it's worth to drink --Orbs um ok i guess --Been cake.. nice i want that speed incrase for all huge towns now. i would have liked to see other rnd items show up like rare crafting materals ... Parchment would have fit in with the theme...

i like the fact that you can sell tickets back for the same price you bought them
  • Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?

yea they were cool... would have liked to see more... how about other carney games... like the horse race things... you could have random skills light up and whoever clicked fastest would win... how about poker... texas holdem anyone? -blackjack... you get the idea (thanks btw for opening that monistary area it helps for us 100% title peoples)

  • Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

yes... i completed both the 50 orb quests and both the 75 orb quests --but the quests on the last day... um no.. they were insane... rifts that automagicly opened after they were closed... it should also be noted that there was a verry small window to get these missions yesterday; you only had about 30 min from the time they were offered to the time of the emp... as stated already it would have been nicer to get gifts over orbs as rewards...

  • Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?

i did ok -- the afk people playin the games helped alot

  • What did you like best? Least?

the dragon hats of course... i don't like that silver comes out blue specially when you have a white one featured on your website...

  • Dogeball

yet another pvp arena that i want all yea round(yea i kno you can do it in gvg but i have a small guild and no pvp slot )... i would like to have seen more skills... like a necro boom/sacrifice -- or monk shield (snowball fights anyone?) the extra res-sigs are just silly -specially when you res automagically every min.

oh yea one more thing about these things.. i hated that a tie means both teams fail... how about a rematch -- or how about last man standing instead of the 20 kills thang.. as 20 kills can take a long time if most of the other team has rage quit already

edit: More...

would be nice if tyra was not left out... or had some other type of day for themselves...

  • Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?
I would have prefered a mix of both. I like the every 2 hours thing, but there should be some sort of big finish in my opinion. It could be because I wanted a little more info on the story line, which the ending didnt give as much as I wanted
  • Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
I loved the dodgeball but couldnt compete very well due to lag. Mini-games were ok, I stopped playing them when I learned how much they would cost.
  • Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
I almost beat one, some of the later ones were easier. I really love challenging high end content, so would enjoy them more. However they need better rewards to encourage some people to give the time needed to complete them. I'm sure many more people would have tried them if it had better drops/ or 250 orbs or something more of value.
  • Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
A fair amount, though I did give some out.
  • What did you like best? Least?
Captians quests. Least favorite was all the bad attitudes it seems to bring out in people.
